Ft. Lauderdale Stiffs ‘Bodies’
Good thing my wife and I were able to catch Bodies, the Exhibition in Manhattan last month, because it isn’t coming to War Memorial Auditorium any time soon. In a blunt move sure to rescue innocent children from actual education, the city commission blocked the show from using the facility. Mayor Jim Naugle had this to say:
“It makes me think about what happened during the Holocaust,” Naugle said at a Thursday conference meeting. “These are the bodies of oppressed people.”
Really? What does the Fort Lauderdale Gun & Knife Show make you think of? Lollipops and teddy bears? The mayor doesn’t seem to have a problem with the display and free sale of thousands of deadly weapons inside the venue. To be clear, my dissatisfaction about gun shows in general is one of inconsistency, not philosophy.
So let’s hope another venue picks up the show, because it is by far the most informative display of human anatomy one can experience without going to medical school.
Saw this when it was in London. Very good, but the German guy, Von Hagens, who is responsible just borders on getting a little too excited about his work. I’m guessing that the live autopsy they showed on one of the major network TV channels here, won’t be getting an airing on their US equivalents anytime soon. It was very interesting, but Von Hagens left you feeling just a little disturbed.
Channel 10 reported this exhibition will be displayed at the former Virgin super store in South Miami. The announcer blithely mentioned these are the bodies of Chinese nationals whose consent to have their cadavers so used is unknown. For all we know, these could be the remains of former political dissidents. So, count me out. There are better ways to learn human anatomy.
i live in south florida, where is it that i can go and see this exhibit????
It seems so Fort Lauderdale isn’t ready for great education… it is more normal for people to stock up on there guns to protect there home, or let there kids watch bloody movies on TV (where people get sliced and diced in every way possible), but it is of course not natural to show the human body and the little wonders it performs every day…
Too bad… I saw the main show when it was in Berlin about six years ago and it was one of the greatest experiences ever. Every school kid needs to go there as a must do program.
Reading the blog above about supporting China and the China dissidents, maybe America should stop buying all kind of material from China… the latest news about toys are sad news, but what really happens in these factories is far beyond believe. But as long as it is cheap America looks to the other side and supports it… but of course dissidents can’t be supported even we don’t know for sure…
I would love to see the “bodies” exhibit but I do not know where it is being shown. Please let me know where in Ft. Lauderdale it is at this time. Thank you.
